9. Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the basted D strips and an F strip to make one long kite string.

10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 using the red and purple ties to complete a total of three long kite strings.

11. Sew a matching A kite unit to the top of each short kite string and a matching B kite unit to the top of each long kite string to complete seven kite panels; press toward the kite strings.

Completing the Quilt

1. Referring to the Assembly Diagram, sew the kite panels together to complete the quilt top, alternating the A panels with the B panels; press.

2. Refer to Quilting Basics on page 64 to layer and baste the quilt. The sample was machine-quilted around each kite appliqué and in the ditch of the seams.

3. Prepare binding strips referring to Quilting Basics on page 64 and bind the quilt.
